The Health and Social Care Diploma Level 5 builds on foundational knowledge, focusing on advanced topics such as leadership, resource management, and policy evaluation. This programme is ideal for those aspiring to senior roles in healthcare or planning to progress to a university degree.

OVERVIEW

This qualification is equivalent to the second year of an undergraduate degree and awards an additional 120 credits upon completion. Combined with the Level 4 qualification, this totals 240 credits, enabling students to progress to the final year of a university degree programme through one of our partner universities.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must hold a Level 4 qualification from Ilford College or an equivalent credential. Relevant work experience may also be considered for admission.

STUDY HOURS

The course includes five modules, each contributing to a total of 120 credits, with an estimated 40 hours of study per module. Flexible learning allows students to study at their own pace. Additionally, students must complete four assignments, each with a word count of 5,000 to 8,000 words, to achieve the qualification.

University Pathway

Level 6 Graduate level and Level 7 Post Graduate level.

University top-up courses require you to have a qualification in a relevant subject. This means
that the course of study that you choose should be closely tied to your previous qualification.
However, it does not have to be the same subject. There is wide flexibility which allows our
students to have a wide range of career or completion prospects

Quality in health and social care is viewed from various perspectives, and this module examines these differing viewpoints. It focuses on how quality is measured, evaluated, and maintained, with an emphasis on empowering service users to actively participate in the evaluation and improvement of the care they receive.

Research Project

This module is designed to develop skills in independent research and critical thinking. Students will undertake a small-scale research project relevant to their academic programme or professional interests, equipping them with the tools for deeper enquiry and analysis in their field.

Partnership Working in Health and Social Care

Effective collaboration is essential in health and social care. This module explores the importance of partnership at multiple levels: working with service users to foster independence, collaborating with professionals to ensure cohesive care, and examining inter-organisational partnerships to optimise joint working strategies.

Working with Service Users with Complex Needs

This module focuses on understanding and addressing the challenges faced by individuals with complex health, physical, or mental needs. Learners will explore strategies to empower service users, enabling them to take control of their care and live with greater autonomy, even in challenging circumstances.
