The Hotel and Hospitality Diploma Level 5 builds on foundational hospitality knowledge, focusing on advanced topics such as quality management, leadership, and global tourism trends. This course is ideal for aspiring managers or professionals aiming to progress to higher-level roles or university degree programmes in hospitality management.

OVERVIEW

The Hotel and Hospitality Diploma Level 5 is equivalent to the second year of an undergraduate degree, awarding students an additional 120 credits upon completion. Together with the Level 4 qualification, this provides a total of 240 credits, enabling students to progress to the final year of an undergraduate degree at one of our partner universities.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

To enroll, students must hold a Level 4 qualification from Ilford College or an equivalent qualification. Relevant work experience may also be considered for admission.

STUDY HOURS

The programme consists of 10 modules, totalling 120 credits. Each module requires approximately 40 hours of study, allowing for flexible learning at your own pace. Alongside the modules, students are required to complete four assignments, each between 5,000 and 8,000 words, to meet the course requirements and earn the qualification.

University Pathway

Level 6 Graduate level and Level 7 Post Graduate level.

University top-up courses require you to have a qualification in a relevant subject. This means
that the course of study that you choose should be closely tied to your previous qualification.
However, it does not have to be the same subject. There is wide flexibility which allows our
students to have a wide range of career or completion prospects

Quality Management

Students will gain the ability to analyse, evaluate, and implement a robust quality management system in a hospitality organisation, ensuring consistent service and operational excellence.

Events and Conference Management

This unit introduces the key operational aspects that contribute to successful events and conference management. Students will learn how to address logistical challenges and deliver memorable experiences for attendees.

Customer Relations Management

Students will explore the importance of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems within hospitality organisations. The module focuses on the processes required to ensure effective customer engagement and loyalty.

Managing People

This module provides an understanding of the fundamental principles of management behaviour, exploring various management styles, roles, responsibilities, and the characteristics and skills required to lead people effectively in the hospitality sector.

Current Issues in HRM

Learners will gain insight into the key principles of Human Resource Management (HRM), focusing on the contemporary challenges HR professionals face, including talent retention, workplace diversity, and employee engagement in hospitality.

Revenue Management

This module covers the key elements of revenue management and how it influences the pricing strategies for hotel rooms. Students will learn how to optimise revenue through demand forecasting and dynamic pricing techniques.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Students will examine the principles of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and how sustainable practices contribute to a company’s long-term success. The module includes an exploration of responsible business practices in the hospitality industry.

Contemporary Issues

This unit addresses the need for organisations in the hospitality industry to remain agile and adapt to rapidly changing environments. It covers how to respond to shifting customer demands and trends in the marketplace.

Business Planning

Students will learn how to create a comprehensive business plan for a hotel or hospitality organisation. The module includes financial forecasting, market analysis, and strategic planning to ensure the success and sustainability of the business.
